御嶽山の歴史

This is an introduction to Mount Ontake climbing routes and Ontake Old Road trekking courses.You can enjoy the beautiful, unspoiled nature unique to Mount Ontake, as well as pilgrimage paths shaped by the mountain’s long tradition as a sacred peak.

People have been visiting Mount Ontake for worship since ancient times. Those who carry visitors’ luggage and serve as guides are called “Gōriki.”Today, we also work as mountain guides, tour conductors, and transporters of supplies.In other words, we are what you might call “porters.” You may find it easier to imagine our role as similar to that of the Sherpa people.

御嶽山は古くから霊山として山岳信仰が盛んで、現在も登拝（登りながら参拝をする）が行われています。その登拝される方々の荷物を持ち案内人をする者は強力と呼ばれてきました。現在は登拝（登りながら参拝をする）の方々の強力、登山ガイド、ツアーの添乗員として皆さまをサポートするほか、山の資材運搬（御嶽山では古くから持子「もちこ」と呼びます）の仕事にも従事しています。いわゆる「ポーター」であり、シェルパ族のような役割をイメージしていただくと分かりやすいかと思います。

御嶽山の歴史は、大きく4つの時代に分類できると考えます。この歴史的な背景を理解することは、御嶽山を訪れる際にその魅力をより深く感じるために重要です。そこで、御嶽山のガイドと強力（ごうりき）が、皆様にわかりやすく要点をまとめました。皆様が御嶽山の深い歴史や文化をより一層楽しんでいただけることを願っています。
